Objective:
To develop the student's ability, knowledge, and judgment to safely preform a rejected landing/go-arounds procedure.
Elements:
- Discuss situations where a go-around is necessary.
- Make timely decision to discontinue the approach to landing.
- Apply takeoff power immediately and transition to climb attitude for Vy ,+10/-5 knots.
- Retract the flaps to the climb setting.
- Retract the landing gear, if retractable, after a positive rate of climb is established.
- Maintain takeoff power to a safe maneuvering altitude, then set power and transition to the airspeed appropriate for the traffic pattern.
- Maintain directional control and proper wind-drift correction throughout the climb.
- Comply with noise abatement procedures, as appropriate.
- Fly the appropriate traffic pattern and discuss reasons why.
- Complete the appropriate checklist when appropriate.
Common Errors:
- Failure to recognize a situation where a go-around is necessary.
- Hazards of delaying a decision to go around.
- Improper power application.
- Failure to control pitch attitude.
- Failure to compensate for torque effect.
- Improper trim technique.
- Failure to maintain recommended airspeeds.
- Improper wing flaps or landing gear retraction procedure.
- Failure to maintain proper track during climb-out.
- Failure to remain well clear of obstructions and other traffic.

Notes:
The go-around can be executed at any point in the pattern.
Discuss rapid flap retraction causing excessive sink rate.
If in doubt, go around.
Once going around, go-around, a landing is not possible.
4 C's - Cram, Climb, Clean, Call
Some go-arounds are not possible due to limited aircraft performance and density altitude.
Situations that require a Go-Around:
- Another aircraft has yet to clear the runway
- Controler inadvertantly cleared another A/C for takeoff
- Gear problems
- Unstable approach to landing
