Objective:

To develop the student's ability to safely and efficiently conclude a flight. This is a complete and systematic conclusion to any flight, which insures the safety of passengers, pilots, ground personnel, and the aircraft.

Elements:

  1. Select and taxi to an appropriate parking spot, considering wind conditions, obstructions, people, and aircraft servicing requirements.
  2. Use proper engine shutdown procedures (POH) and secure the cockpit.
  3. Insure that no deplaning occurs until the aircraft is safely shutdown and the parking brake is set.
  4. Supervise the deplaning of all passengers, giving special attention to anyone not familiar with ramp hazards.
  5. Secure the airplane properly with tie downs, wheel chocks and control gust locks as appropriate.
  6. Perform a post-flight visual inspection.
  7. Personally verify that any aircraft discrepancies have been noted.

Common Errors:

  1. Hazards resulting from failure to follow recommended procedures.
  2. Poor planning, improper technique, or faulty judgment in performance of postflight procedures.
  3. Not using the appropriate checklist.
